About Me

I wrote my first story in the fourth grade. It was about a detective who smoked cigars (my dad had been watching an old Humphrey Bogart film that night). Though I've never written another mystery, the process of writing it left an indelible mark on me and on the way I think about words and how to wield them.

In college, I majored in English and studied screenwriting in graduate school. I always loved homework - I'm kind of a geek that way. The excitement of receiving an assignment and rising to the task of completing it on time and to the best of my ability was what I called a good time.

Which leads me to where I am today: a freelance writer. I get the same thrill when I get a new writing job as I did when I got a new homework assignment - except now I get paid for writing, so this beats homework any day.
